Damage Restoration Before & After in Queens, NY

A tide mark is the line water leaves on a wall. It tells you how high the water reached, where it soaked in, and where it stopped. Our technicians look for that line first on every job, then dry past it. The photos below show what that process actually looks like across Queens: pre-war co-ops in Forest Hills with original plaster, garden apartments in Sunnyside, brick rowhouses in Ridgewood. Before and after, side by side, no staging. Just the work.

Burst Supply Line in a Forest Hills Co-op Kitchen

BeforeBeforeAfterAfter
Water damage restoration in Forest Hills, Queens: a burst supply line under the sink soaked the cabinet bases and warped the adjacent hardwood.

The problem: a braided supply line let go overnight and ran for roughly six hours before anyone noticed. Water traveled under the tile into the cabinet bases, then wicked into the oak flooring across a 9-by-12-foot kitchen. Base cabinets were swollen past saving. The result: we extracted the standing water, opened the toe kicks, pulled the affected flooring, and ran a Dri-Eaz dehumidifier and XPOWER air movers for four days. The tide mark on the drywall stopped at 4 inches, so we dried past it and the wall stayed. New flooring and cabinet bases went in. You see the same room, dry and quiet, before the paint even went back on.

Attic Mold from a Blocked Bathroom Fan in Astoria

BeforeBeforeAfterAfter
Mold remediation in Astoria, Queens: dark colonies on attic sheathing caused by a bathroom fan venting into the attic instead of outside.

The problem: a bathroom exhaust fan had been venting warm, humid air directly into the attic for years. The plywood sheathing above the bathroom had a dark bloom roughly 6 feet across, and the insulation below it was wet to the touch. The result: our team contained the attic with 6-mil poly, HEPA-vacuumed the sheathing, and removed the affected insulation. We treated the framing with an IFA-approved antimicrobial, then worked with the homeowner’s handyman to re-route the fan to the exterior. The after photo shows clean plywood, new insulation, and a bathroom fan that now vents the way it should. In Queens attics, blocked venting is the mold story more often than roof leaks are.

Grease Fire in a Jackson Heights Rowhouse

BeforeBeforeAfterAfter
Fire damage restoration in Jackson Heights, Queens: soot and charring on kitchen walls and ceiling after a stovetop grease fire.

The problem: a grease fire flashed up the wall behind the stove and left thick soot on every surface of the kitchen, plus a sharp smoke smell that traveled through two floors of the rowhouse. No structural burn damage, but the smoke had gotten into everything porous. The result: we cleaned the hard surfaces with a dry-chem sponge to lift the soot without smearing, then ran an air scrubber and thermal fogger to pull the odor out of the plaster and the woodwork. The walls got sealed with a shellac-based primer before repainting, because soot stains bleed through latex if you skip that step. The after photo shows a bright, clean kitchen that doesn’t smell like the fire ever happened.

Failed Water Heater in a Sunnyside Garden Apartment

Water damage restoration in Sunnyside, Queens: a 40-gallon water heater rusted through and flooded the finished basement.

The problem: a 40-gallon tank let go while the homeowner was at work. By the time anyone got home, water had spread across the finished basement, soaked the carpet pad, and wicked up the drywall about 18 inches on two walls. The result: we extracted over 30 gallons, removed the carpet and pad, and cut the drywall at 24 inches to get past the wet line. Three Phoenix axial air movers and an Injectidry system dried the wall cavities from the inside. The after photo shows open, dry studs ready for new drywall, and a concrete floor that reads 0% moisture on the meter. No salvage on the tank itself, but the room was dry in five days.

Toilet Overflow in a Ridgewood Brownstone Parlor Floor

Water damage restoration in Ridgewood, Queens: sewage-contaminated water from a toilet overflow soaked through to the ceiling below.

The problem: a toilet overflowed and ran long enough to soak through the bathroom floor and into the ceiling of the parlor below. This was category 2 water, which means cleanup had to be handled as a contamination job, not just a dry-out. The result: we removed the affected drywall from the ceiling below, sanitized the framing, and dried both levels with Dri-Eaz and B-Air equipment. The bathroom tile was reset where it had loosened, and the ceiling below got new rock and a fresh coat of paint. Shoe covers and drop cloths were down before we carried a single piece of equipment through the front door, because in a brownstone, the hallway floor is part of the job too.

Roof Leak in a Kew Gardens Tudor

Professional technician performing water damage restoration and moisture inspection
Water damage restoration in Kew Gardens, Queens: a roof leak after heavy rain left water stains on the plaster ceiling of a second-floor bedroom.

The problem: after a heavy March rain, a second-floor bedroom ceiling showed a spreading water stain the size of a dinner table. The roof issue was a cracked flashing, but the interior damage needed drying before any patching could happen. The result: we opened the ceiling at the stain, extracted the water that had pooled above the plaster, and ran a low-profile Dri-Eaz dehumidifier in the bedroom for three days. The after photo shows a repaired, repainted ceiling with no visible seam. The homeowner fixed the flashing with their own roofer, and we got the room dry before mold had a chance to take hold. That’s the sequence that matters: dry first, patch second.
